Oren Ambarchi (Fully Seated)

Liquid Architecture presents a solo performance from Oren Ambarchi. Ambarchi’s masterful and refined sound encapsulates decades of sound and music research. As a solo performer, he delivers a uniquely crafted sound on guitar and audio processing tools, reducing musical material to its minimal core and building passages of improvisation with the rich, essential timbre that remains. Informed by an astute knowledge of musical history, with a particular penchant for outer-adventurist sounds, Ambarchi’s music is definitively modern and boundary pushing while maintaining an incredibly articulate and emotive sound. Support on the night comes from Sydney based experimentalist m.h aka Moss Hopkins, presenting a Melbourne debut for his newly imagined work.

Oren Ambarchi is an Australian multi-instrumentalist whose practice focuses on the exploration of the guitar. He is a prolific solo artist and consummate collaborator who has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists over the last three decades including; Fennesz, Charlemagne Palestine, Sunn 0)), crys cole, Thomas Brinkmann, Keiji Haino, Alvin Lucier, John Zorn, Annea Lockwood, Alvin Curran, Loren Connors, Manuel Gottsching/Ash Ra, Merzbow, Jim O'Rourke, Keith Rowe, David Rosenboom, Akio Suzuki, Phill Niblock, John Tilbury, Richard Pinhas, EvanParker, Fire! and many more. He has released numerous recordings over the years for labels such as Touch, Editions Mego, Drag City, PAN, Kranky, Staubgold and Tzadik. Since 2009 Ambarchi has run the Black Truffle record label.Ambarchi's latest album (together with Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin)isGhosted IIIreleased via US label Drag City.

m.h. is the solo project of Gadigal/Sydney based artist Moss Hopkins. Drawing from histories of musique concrete, electroacoustic music, noise and DIY song making, he uses string instruments, tape recorders, objects and voices within different acoustic environments, which are deconstructed and presented to the listener in delicate and degraded ways.

He has released recordings with Penultimate Press, Canti Magnetici, Tahalamos and Regional Bears, with local performances at events organised by the NOW now, Liquid Architecture, Avantwhatever, Humming Grotto, AGNSW and Omniversal Hum. International appearances include Café Oto, London; LaSalle College of the Arts, Singapore; Les Ateliers Claus, Brussels; TUSK Festival, Newcastle Upon Tyne; Colour Out of Space Festival, Brighton; Radiophrenia, Glasgow; and Otooto, Tokyo.

Moss makes radiophonic work with Italian musician Renato Grieco, music and sound installations as part of the duo Banana with Alexandra Spence, and plays in the band Warm Currency with Mary MacDougall.
