‘Front Bar Sessions’ with Banjo Lucia + Ellis King
Corner Hotel (Richmond, VIC)
Sunday, 1 June 2025 3:00 pm
Ah, Sundays at the Corner — where the beer’s cold, the music’s hot and the vibe’s just right. We’re bringing back the magic of lazy afternoons with a limited series of Front Bar Sessions. Think free live music, good company and that classic Corner Front Bar energy.
It’s the kind of place where you can pull up a stool, order a pint and lose track of time while local legends and up-and-comers play the perfect Sunday soundtrack.
Front Bar Sessions won’t stick around forever, so make the most of ‘em while they’re here. Round up the crew, grab a spot by the bar and let’s finish the weekend the right way.
This week's lineup features: Banjo Lucia and Ellis King
Vulnerability, honesty and connection form the tapestry of Fremantle based singer-songwriter Banjo
Lucia. Emerging at the tail end of 2021, her powerful debut single That’s Not Loving garnered acclaim from outlets such as Rolling Stone, Vice & Triple J for its poise, vulnerability and depth, sparking the unknown artist into the Australian spotlight. Following shortly after was the independent release of her debut EP Peccadilloes - a stripped back collection of songs that detail various intimate facets of her own experience with grief, love and growth. Armed with an arresting live performance, confidence, wit and unbridled charm, she established herself as a rapidly emerging artist selling out headline shows, performing at various festivals, and touring Australia, the UK & Europe with heavyweights such as Stella Donnelly, Sharon Van Etten, Asgeir & more. She is currently finishing her sophomore EP due for release in 2025 - a record that further highlights her versatility, artistic growth, multi-genre sensibilities and potential to burgeon into one of Australia’s most vibrant, exciting up and coming artists.
Newcomer Ellis King takes influence from a modern generation of singer-songwriters (Phoebe Bridgers, Holly Humberstone, Gracie Abrams), packing her music with compelling melodies, deceptively intricate arrangements and lyrics that pull no punches. King’s voice too is a dynamic instrument—crackling with emotion and simmering with drama. Her songs speak up and speak out. Stinging rebukes disguised as personal observations, King pens rich lyrics of heartbreak and growth, each song delivered to the listener as though tailor-made for them. Signed globally with the influential Nettwerk Music Group (Passenger, Mallrat, Vacations), King will be heading into the studio with respected producer Steph Marziano (Hayley Williams, Radiohead, Kasabian) with an EP expected late 2023. On the live front, King has been honing her craft on stage, supporting the likes of Husky and Kaitlin Keegan. More gigs are coming up as she opens for Reb Fountain. Born in Tasmania, multi-instrumentalist King began developing her songwriting craft from a young age. Settling in Melbourne and submerging herself in a music industry education, she decided to enter the fray and pursue a career as a professional musician. Armed with an accomplished catalogue of intimate songs, King is up for the challenge.
