Whitney (USA - Australian Tour 2025)
Whitney return to Australia this October for the first time since playing Laneway Festival in 2017.
Formed in Chicago in 2015 by Julien Ehrlich (formerly Unknown Mortal Orchestra) and Max Kakacek (formerly Smith Westerns), the band quickly became known and loved for their warm, soulful sound and introspective songwriting.
Their debut album Light Upon the Lake – featuring the beloved single “No Woman” – earned Pitchfork’s Best New Music distinction, who praised it as “near flawless… low-key perfectionism [that] has a way of sneaking in past our defenses and lingering longer—before we know, we’ve been singing under our breath for the better part of a year.”
With their fourth studio album Small Talk due for release on November 7, Whitney will give Australian audiences an early taste of new material alongside fan favourites. Having recently taken Melbourne’s own Folk Bitch Trio on tour with them through North America, it’s a timely return to Australia.
They’ll perform at Crowbar in Brisbane on Thursday October 16, Corner Hotel in Melbourne on Friday October 17, before heading to Sydney for SXSW at Tumbalong Park on Saturday October 18.
“If you’ve ever seen Whitney live, you already know what a treasure their performances are. The Chicago-based outfit, led by the effortlessly cool Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek, has a gift for crafting songs that feel both timeless and deeply personal — sunny yet melancholic, tender yet bold.” – We Write About Music
